Sometimes it’s easier to create a symmetrical design by working on half of a design first and then reflecting it over an axis. Then again sometimes we forgot to turn symmetry on too? Whatever the case, the Mirroring tool in uMake makes it easy to reflect curves and surfaces over a specified axis. This video walks you through how you can use the mirroring tool and how it can be used in conjunction with the Symmetry tool.
0:00:00.610,0:00:04.400 Want to make a symmetrical design but forgot to turn symmetry on? 0:00:04.400,0:00:08.620 No worries, the mirroring function is a powerful tool that lets you mirror part of a design 0:00:08.620,0:00:10.570 across a chosen axis. 0:00:10.570,0:00:14.849 This lets you focus on designing just half of a design if you want, which you can then 0:00:14.849,0:00:17.860 mirror over an axis later on. 0:00:17.860,0:00:24.090 Simply select what you want to mirror, then select mirror from the side menu. 0:00:24.090,0:00:29.550 From there choose the X, Y, or Z axis. 0:00:29.550,0:00:35.710 Your selection, or components of your model will be reflected over this chosen axis. 0:00:35.710,0:00:39.450 One thing to note- mirroring is different than symmetry. 0:00:39.450,0:00:43.620 With symmetry, changes to one side will be reflected on the other as long as symmetry 0:00:43.620,0:00:46.740 is turned on. 0:00:46.740,0:00:52.000 With Mirroring, it's just like taking one part of your design and reflecting it over the other axis. 0:00:52.000,0:00:57.420 If you use the Mirroring tool without symmetry turned on, then changes will not be reflected. 0:00:57.420,0:01:02.260 However if you use the mirroring tool and symmetry tool together, then as long as symmetry 0:01:02.260,0:01:07.710 is active, changes made to one side of a design will be reflected on the other side. 0:01:07.710,0:01:12.469 Try out Mirroring and also using it with symmetry to get a feel for how each function works.
